Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) involves stepping away from unhelpful black-and-white thinking that can keep us stuck and feeling depressed, anxious, and overwhelmed. I will assist you in learning and practicing the skills in each DBT component (mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation) that can help you find more success and less distress in your daily life.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you accept and cope with the common emotions and experiences that are part of being human, but can lead to distress and impact your wellness. Avoidance can keep us stuck, and often makes the distress worse! A key component of ACT is psychological flexibility, which will help you be in the present moment, adapt to various stressors, and live in accordance with your values.
I practice from a psychodynamic perspective and believe our early experiences affect us, and find it helpful to gain insight about their impact on our current emotions and actions
